Erler, Brendan

Brendan Erler (1979) studied Social Science at the University Duisburg Essen and Political Science at the Free University Berlin (Otto-Suhr-Institut). Since 2009 he has been a PhD student at the Institute of Media and Communication at the University of Hamburg and member of the Graduate School Media and Communication.

In his PhD-project he is analyzing the media discourse on digitalization and its perceived positive / negative effects on culture regarding the cultural studies concept of culture as a medium of conflict, “a battlefield where no once-for-all victories are obtained but where there are always strategic positions to be won and lost” (Stuart Hall), with a comparative focus on the literature- and music-industry.

He also works as a consultant in online communication and content management for the “Trikont” web portal.“
